Abstract
An electric resistance heater is made by spraying a metal or an inorganic metal compound on to a refractory base, passing a current through the coating and measuring the temperature at various areas and spraying further metal on to produce the desired heat output. The metal may be platinum or an alloy thereof containing rhodium, nickel, gold, iridium or palladium, nickel alloys, molybdenum silicide, chromium alloys or coppernickel alloys. The refractory base may be mullite, alumina, zirconia, beryllia, chromite, forsterite, kyanite, fire clay, zircon, magnesia spinel, titania, cassiterite, barium oxide, silica, magnesia, thoria and chromic oxide.
