Abstract

1,057,540. Blanks transferring. E. SCHWARZ. Dec. 30, 1964 [Jan.10, 1964]. No. 52842/64. Heading B3H. Blank transfer mechanism for a press comprises a reciprocating slide 45, Fig. 3 (not shown), carrying pivoted workpiece ,gripping tongs 48, 49 and driven from the press ram 10. Fig. 1 (not shown) through mechanism 23, 36, 42. 43 which actuates the tongs automatically at the ends of the slide stroke, whereby on a first forward stroke of the slide an extractor 62 pushes a workpiece 61 out of a magazine 64, Fig. 3, to an intermediate station where it is held by a member 65, and on the next forward stroke the workpiece is gripped by the tongs and moved into the press tool 69. The press ram 10 has an arm 11 on which is adjustably mounted a spring-loaded lost-motion device 13 whose coupling rod 19 is releasably connected at 16 to a vertical driving rod 23 which actuates a crank arm 28 on a shaft 29, Fig. 3, connected through step-up gearing 31, 32, 34 with a second crank arm 36 which is thus caused to rotate through 180 degrees between stops such as 68. Crank arm 36 is adjustably mounted on its shaft 35, Fig. 2 (not shown), by screws 39 and its crankpin 40 is also adjustably connected to a link 42 coupled to a lever 43 pivoted at 47 to the slide 45 which is then reciprocated with a sinusoidal motion. The upper end of lever 43 is of wedge shape 44, Fig. 5 (not shown), for actuating the tongs 48, 49 which are spring-biased to open position. The slide carries a pair of extractors 62 for moving the workpiece 61 from the magazine 64 the intermediate station where it is held on spring-biased flaps 58, Fig. 3, by a member 65, whilst the slide is retracted. The workpiece may be a scissors blank.
