Abstract
A method of protecting a land surface against frost, snow and ice comprises covering the land surface with a coating of residues from the extraction of alumina from bauxite. The residue may be heated before use. A preferred composition comprises silicon or silica, potassium chloride, iron, magnesium oxide, copper oxide or chloride and aluminium oxide. Sodium chloride may also be present.
