Abstract
1,057,234. Gas turbine plant; turbine blades. CHRYSLER CORPORATION. April 14, 1964 [July 25, 1963], No. 15354/64. Headings F1G and F1T. Prior to the assembly of a gas turbine engine, Fig. 1 (not shown), having a centrifugal compressor 24 driven by an axial flow turbine 26 and a separate power turbine 48, the actual flow areas of a series of turbines 26 and corresponding nozzle blade assemblies 42 are determined experimentally on test rigs, Figs. 10, 11 (not shown), under conditions corresponding to maximum engine speed. A turbine 26 and nozzle assembly 42 are then selectively matched so that the ratio of their actual flow areas is within 1% of the ideal flow area ratio as determined empirically, thus ensuring that the engine will be capable of developing its full rated power. In the embodiment the ideal ratio of the nozzle assembly 42 to the turbine 26 is 1 to 1À5. The turbine and nozzle assembly are also matched as a sub-assembly to the compressor 24 so as to ensure compressor operation within limits defined by the compressor's characteristic surge and choke lines.
