Abstract

1,057,185. Electromagnetic switches. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. April 9, 1964 [April 10, 1963], No. 14643/64. Heading H2B. A sealed magnetic contact device is manufactured by sealing a contact reed 11 in one end of a tube 10 and inserting a contact member 14 from the other end of the tube with its end 15 wedged between the contact 11 and tube 10. The member 14 is then sealed in the other end of the tube and its external loop is cut off. The arrangement shown provides a change-over contact device for operation by a coil or movable magnet the bias and contact pressure between fixed and movable contacts 13 and 11 being set by the method of manufacture. The fixed contact may be wedged between the tube and a non-magnetic portion welded to the end of the movable contact (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). Fig. 7 shows an arrangement in which the contact members 23, 25, 27 are shaped to fit the inner faces of the tube 22 and fixed contact 27 is wedged between the tube 22 and movable contact 25.
