Abstract

[Also in Division H1] A pressure transducer comprises a semiconductor body containing at least one PN junction doped with a minority carrier lifetime reducing impurity and a stylus bearing on the body adjacent the junction. The body, which may be of silicon or germanium, may constitute a diode or a junction transistor. Suitable lifetime reducing impurities are copper, silver, gold and nickel. The pressure sensitivity of the device which may form part of a microphone or a static pressure transducer increases with increasing concentration of these impurities and with increasing conductivity of the zones up to the point at which the semi-conductor properties of the material are lost.
