Abstract

1,054,089. Detecting fires electrically. ANSTALT POUR APPLICATIONS ELECTRONIQUES. Oct.14, 1964 [Oct. 16, 1963], No. 41850/64. Heading G1N. [Also in Divisions G4 and H3] In a fire detector, the voltage across an ionization chamber E whose interior is accessible to the atmosphere controls the capacitance of a diode C p , the variations of which capacitance actuate an indicator device. As shown in Fig. 4, a stabilized crystal oscillator feeds an oscillatory circuit comprising L 1 , C 1 and C p . L 2 is inductively coupled with L 1 and feeds an amplifier α and a demodulator # to supply a signal dependent on the amplitude of the oscillations in the circuit L 1 , C 1 , C p to a load V which may be an electromagnetic or solid state relay, a thyratron, a radio transmitter or any other information or alarm system. Fig. 5 (not shown) depicts a simplified circuit. Fig. 6 (not shown), depicts a circuit which may be used to provide extra information to reduce the risk of false alarms. A relay L 3 is actuated if the temperature of a thermistor Th 1 is too high and/or if infrared radiation falls on an infrared sensitive photo-cell or an open base transistor with an optical filter P 1 and/or if the temperature of an exposed thermistor Th 3 exceeds that of a shielded thermistor Th 2 . Thermistors Th 4, Fig. 6, and R 5 , Fig. 4, are used to stabilize transistor T 2 and the crystal oscillator respectively. Resistance R may be a second ionisation chamber.
