Abstract
1,053,741. Mooring for discharging tanks. FMC CORPORATION. Feb. 17, 1964 [Feb. 20, 1963], No. 6450/64. Heading B7S. [Also in Divisions B8 and F2] Apparatus for loading and unloading a ship moored offshore comprises a pipe assembly 12 having a first fixed section 14 on the sea bed, a second section 20 between a swivel joint 17 and a similar joint 21 on a pallet 22 and a third section consisting of two arms 24 which can be connected to a ship terminal fitting 26. With the apparatus in the inoperative position of Fig. 3 a ship 10 is moored to fore-and-aft anchor blocks 32, 48 by connection to a shackle 34 and stern buoys 42. The pallet buoy cables 70, 74, 78 are hauled in and shackles 56, 62 are connected to and fore-and-aft ship's side cables 58, 64 which are simultaneously paid out as another ship cable-hauls in a shackle 75 which is then passed about a bollard 54. Finally the cables 58, 64 are hauled in to raise the pallet into abutment with the hull, Fig. 1. The arms 24 can then be connected to the ship's fittings 26. The provision of the section 20 and the arrangement of the arms 24 in pivotally connected sections on the pallet 22 allows connection to be made to ships of different sizes when the pipe assembly has been connected up the moorings may be slackened or cast off as it provides adequate anchorage in itself.
