Abstract
1,053,353. Change-speed control. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. July 16, 1965, No. 30240/65. Heading F2D. A gear selector mechanism for a four-speed and reverse synchromesh gear-box, Fig. 1, not shown, comprises a rod 66 slidable axially and rotatably mounted in the gear-box and carrying two members on opposite sides of a pin 103, each member having a fork in engagement with a gear coupling element. A lever 67 pivoted at 69 operates a reverse gear coupling element on shaft 57. The two members and lever 67 have extensions 87, 89, 95 each having a recess 97, 99, 101 which lie in a common plane radial to rod 66 when the members and lever are in a neutral, gear-disengaged position. An interlock lever 105 pivoted to the gear-box at 106 has an aperture 107 embracing rod 66 and a narrower aperture 109 into which the pin 103 extends. Rotation of rod 66 brings pin 103 into one of the recesses 97, 99, 101 and then axial movement of rod 66 moves the appropriate member or lever 67 to engage a desired gear; with pin 103 in recess 99 the lever 105 prevents axial movement of lever 67 and extension 87 and the lever 105 similarly prevents movement of the other members or lever when rotated by pin 103 as it engages recess 97 or 101. Stops, not shown, prevent the pin rotating beyond recess 97 or 101 and the extension 89 prevents movement in the opposite direction when a gear is engaged.
