Abstract
1,052,795. Producing aluminium wire. PECHINEY COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTROMETALLURGIQUES. Feb. 18, 1964 [ Feb. 19, 1963], No. 6689/64. Heading C7A. A process for making wire composed of "conductive aluminium", defined as consisting of 0À03% - 0À12% Si, 0À10% - 0À45% Fe and the balance of aluminium, in which the conductive aluminium has added thereto, a quantity of copper such that the content of this metal is brought to 0À01% - 0À05%, the alloy thus obtained is cast and portions thereof are homogenized at a temperature higher than 400‹ C. for about 8 hours; and are then mechanically worked to the required dimensions after having been cooled progressively in the furnace or in the open air. The quantity of copper added is preferably such that the sum of the copper and silicon contents of the resultant alloy lies in the range of from 0À07% to 0À09% by weight; or that the sum of the contents of silicon and copper are within the range 0À07% - 0À09%. The aluminium castings may be transformed to wire by hot drawing, and the wire formed may be quenched in water.
