To lengthen the life of the hose of a flexiblehose pump comprising a rotatable carrier 10, Fig. 2, (not shown) carrying a plurality of rollers 11, which on rotation of the carrier by means of a pinion 13, deforms the hose, a layer 3 of resilient abrasive - resistant material is arranged between the rollers and a non-circular hose 1 having a flattened surface adjacent the layer 3 to minimise cracking of the hose walls. Preferably an insert 2 of kidney-shape crosssection extends inside the hose over an arc of about 120 degrees with its concave surface uppermost.
