Abstract

1,052,519. Automatic circuit - breakers. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. April 8, 1964 [April 11. 1963], No. 14462/64. Heading H2B. An automatic circuit-breaker having the usual thermal and/or electromagnetic tripping devices and whose contacts are separated upon heavy short-circuit currents by electrodynamic repulsion is provided with a two-step spring latch 8 co-operating with a pin 5 on the movable contact member 4 to maintain the member in its electrodynamically opened position until the contact carrier 1 is returned to its open position either manually or by the tripping devices. The pin 5 forms one anchor point of a contact pressure spring 6. Upon very high shortcircuit currents flowing the contact member 4 is thrown back against a resilient stop 14 where it is latched by the pin 5 engaging a top surface 10 of latch 8 and the spring 6 passing overcentre of the pivot point 3 of the contact member 4 on carrier 1. On somewhat lesser short-circuits pin 5 is latched in an alternative step 9 in latch 8, without the spring 6 passing over-centre.
