[Also in Division D1] The invention comprises compounds of the formula in which X represents the substituted anilino group Y.C 6 H 4 .NH- where Y is a sulphonic acid, carboxylic acid or sulphonamido group or such a group which is further substituted in the benzene ring by at least one chlorine atom or alkyl or alkoxy group containing 1-4 carbon atoms; and salts of such compounds and a process for the preparation thereof comprising the steps of (a) replacing one chlorine atom of cyanuric chloride by reaction with #-(#-hydroxyethoxy) ethylamine of the formula (b) replacing another chlorine atom of each of the cyanuric chloride by reaction with 4,4<SP>1</SP>- diaminostilbene-2,2<SP>1</SP>-disulphonic acid, and (c) replacing the third chlorine of the cyanuric chloride by reaction with a compound of the formula XH, the steps (a), (b) and (c) being carried out in any desired order and then, if desired, converting the compound of the first formula above thus formed to a salt thereof. Examples are furnished. The products are used as whitening agents in the treatment of textiles and paper-making.
