Abstract
1,051,179. Fencing; handrails. SPREY ARCHITECTURAL METALS Ltd. June 8, 1965 [Oct. 16, 1964], No. 42276/64. Heading E1B. A set of parts for building a balustrade or handrail following changes in lateral direction and/or inclination includes tubular or other posts 10 (or alternatively wall mounting brackets), connector plates 15 having integral lugs 17 pivoted at 19 to the posts, hand rail bars 20 having holes for rigid attachment to the plates 15, and further hand rail bars 25 having apertured end lugs for hingeing to the plates 15. To accommodate various changes in lateral direction, four types of element 22 are provided, Figs. 6A-9B (not shown), each comprising a plate having two apertured hingeing lugs disposed at various angles to each other. As shown the bulustrade has infill panels formed by pivoted strips 33- 36. One or more of the posts may be translucent, or have openings, and incorporate a fluroscent tube. The flat hand rail bars shown may be replaced by tubes having flattened ends. In a modification, Figs 12-13 (not shown) each post comprises a pair of spaced bars and each connector has a dovetail groove receiving a corresponding formation on the hand rail bars; the hinge connections may be provided by an assembly of two rail elements hinged together.
