The discharge screw conveyor in a solid-bowl centrifuge leaving at least a part thereof of conical shape has secured to the hollow shaft 1' which carries the conveying spiral 1 a section 3 of an additional spiral which is located between the ends of a turn of the spiral 1 and in front of (as seen in the conveying direction of the spiral 1) and spaced from an inlet opening 2 in the shaft 1'. The function of the spiral section 3 is to deflect the fine particles already separated in the centrifuge bowl so that on their way to discharge they are not stirred by the incoming material from the inlet 2. The spiral section 3 may extend over 120 to 150 degrees and its pitch is equal to the normal pitch of the spiral 1, the latter having a larger pitch, preferably twice the normal pitch, in the region adjacent the inlet 2. The spiral 1 and the spiral section 3 may be multi-threaded.
