Abstract

1,050,821. Drying paper webs and felts. BELOIT CORPORATION. July 31, 1963 [Aug. 3, 1962], No. 30432/63. Heading F4G. [Also in Division D2] In a press-section of a paper-making machine the felt 445 itself is dewatered by being passed-i.e. without the paper web-into a press nip N-20 together with an endless porous belt 442. The belt may be of a Fourdrinier wire construction-i.e. of metal or plastics-or may be a porous rubber mat. The paper web passes on felt 445 through press hip N-17 between roll 418 which may be a Yankee drum or an ordinary bare roll, and stays on the surface of roll 418 till at least a second press nip N-18 is reached, while felt 445 is dewatered, and with either the dewatered felt 445, or a second felt 446 passing through nip N-18. The felt passing through nip N-18 may be dewatered using a second porous belt 426. To cut down the number of press rolls 440, 447, 448, 417, 425, 428, some of these rolls may be used to form more than one press nip (Figs. 3-7, not shown). The press rolls may be suction, plain, rubber covered, blind drilled, or wire or fabric covered rolls. Water showers S for the felts and belts, doctors for press rolls 425 and 448, and air showers to blow water out of the belts may be provided.
