Abstract
1,050,116. Drills. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 7, 1963 [Aug. 21, 1962], No. 32071/62. Heading B3C. [Also in Division B4] A rock drill comprises a shank 2 and a bit body having only two cutting tips 3, 4, the tip 3 having a first cutting edge extending across the axis of the shank and formed with a point 11 located on the axis, and the tip 4 having a second cutting edge extending in a transverse plane to a radial distance which is greater than the radial distance to which the first tip extends. The cutting edge of the tip 3 is formed in two portions 8, 9, Fig. 1 (not shown) which extends at an inclusive angle of between 90 and 120 degrees. In further constructions, Figs. 4 and 7 (not shown), the two tips are positioned at an angle to each other, the tip 3 of the latter construction extending more than the full width of the shank.
