Abstract

<PICT:1049943/C1/1> A glass material for capacitor seal (see Division H1) has a coefficient of expansion which matches or is slightly less than that of tantalum, niobium, titanium, stainless steel or nickel-iron alloy. Suitable glasses are:- .Example 1:.BaO .. .. .35% ..Al2O3 .. .. .25% ..B2O3 .. .. .40% .Example 2:.BaO .. .. .35% ..Al2O3 .. .. .25% ..B2O3 .. .. .35% ..CeO2 .. .. .5% These glasses have densities of 2.94 and 3.09 g./c.c., coefficients of thermal expansion 60 x 10-7 and 61.7 x 10-7 cm./cm./ DEG C. and softening points 676 DEG and 683 DEG C. respectively. A lead wire 7 of tantalum or niobium is sealed into a ring 13 of titanium by the glass 12 in an electrolytic capacitor, the lead 7 having an anodic dielectric oxide coating.
