In an electromagnetic relay comprising a plurality of fixed contacts 16 co-operating with a plurality of flexible movable contacts 18, an E-shaped core 20, 22, the centre limb of which carries an energizing winding 24, and an armature 30 pivotally supported about a knife edge 23 formed on one outer limb 20<SP>1</SP> of the core, the movable contacts are actuated by an electrically insulating, e.g. nylon, member 50 slidable on arid guided by the other limb 20<SP>11</SP> of the core. The insulating member is retained in position by a member 56, 58 (Fig. 4, not shown) secured to the core. The terminals 14, 14<SP>1</SP> of the contacts and 14t of the winding fit in slots in a base 10 and are plugged into sockets 15 in a sub-base 40. The armature 30 is urged into engagement with the knife edge 23 and away from the core member 23 by a U-shaped spring 36 (Fig. 3, not shown). The armature is held captive by legs 33<SP>1</SP> which pass beneath an extension 21 of limb 20<SP>1</SP> and has fingers 31 which engage in slots in the insulating member 50. A transparent cupshaped cover 60<SP>1</SP> fits over the relay and has holes 64 in flanges 62 to permit it to be mounted upside down on a similar relay. A relay with side exit terminals may be mounted on another relay without inverting by means of bolts which pass through holes in diametrically opposed ears formed in the base 10.
