1,046,275. Colour television. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. May 15, 1963 [May 15, 1962], No. 19207/63. Heading H4F. In a colour television receiver synchronous demodulator circuit for use with a quadrature modulated colour subcarrier of, for example, the N.T.S.C. type but in which one of the modulation axes is periodically (e.g. at line or frame rate) switched through 180 degrees for the purpose of reducing colour falsification due to phase errors, and wherein the demodulation axes are arranged not to be identical with the modulation axes, means are provided to switch the directions of the demodulation axes synchronously with the switching of the modulation axis so that the angular relationship between the respective demodulation axes and the modulation axis which is not switched is maintained but the sign of the relationship is reversed. Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate the operation where the modulation I axis is periodically reversed and demodulation is effected along the R-Y and B-Y axes. The R-Y demodulation axis is switched through 246 degrees and the B-Y axis through 66 degrees. Fig. 7 (not shown) illustrates the operation when the Q modulation axis is switched through 180 degrees. Figs. 8 and 9 illustrate the operation when the Q modulation axis is switched and demodulation is effected along the X and Z axes (see " Colour Television" by Carut and Townsend, pages 241-248). Similar operation (not illustrated) applies when the I axis is switched.
