Abstract

1, 046, 020. Doctor device. LOWE PAPER CO. Oct. 14, 1964 [Oct. 28,1963], No. 41846/64. Heading D1L. A doctoring device for removing excess coating from a coated web 22 comprises a rotating doctor roller 26 engaging the web and a doctor blade 34 for cleaning the excess coating from the roller 26. The roller 26 is adjustably positioned. As shown the web 22, coated by a roller 12, passes about a backing roller 24 having a resilient covering against which the oppositely rotating roller 26 presses the web. The blade 34 oscillates across the roller 26 to assist in removing the coating thereon, this excess coating running into a receptacle 42. In addition roller 26 is partially immersed in a cleaning fluid 50 e.g. water, the cleaning fluid being removed from the roller by a rubber blade 56 which oscillates across the roller. In a further form there is no backing roller 24 but a pair of rollers guide the web into pressing engagement with the doctor roller. Data from specific coating runs is given.
