Abstract

[Also in Division F1 A bleed valve on an axial flow compressor, e.g. for a by-pass gas-turbine jet-propulsion engine, comprises a pair of radially extending annular flanges 13, 14, Fig. 3 (not shown), on the compressor casing 10, an aperture 10a in the casing between the flanges for the passage therethrough of fluid, an annular valve member 16 having a pair of radially-extending flanges 17, 18 mounted concentrically with the casing for movement relative thereto to move the flanges 17, 18 into and out of sealing contact with the casing flanges 13, 14 respectively, and a sealing ring 43, e.g. of steel, on the flange 14, which forms a seal with the flange 18. A further seal 41 is mounted on the flange 17. The member 16 is moved by an hydraulic motor 35, Fig. 2 (not shown), acting through a rotatable shaft 31 and lever 23, in a combined circumferential and axial direction.
