Abstract
1,042,557. Hoists; stop gear. J. E. FAWELL. May 20, 1965, No. 21357/65. Heading B8B. A safety device for stopping a hoist either in the event of overload or of the cable becoming slack, comprises a spring-loaded vertically slidable bar 22, Fig. 2, to which the fixed end 8 of the hoist cable is attached. Under normal loads a light spring 27 is fully compressed between a flange 26 on the bar 22 and a flange 24 on a cylinder 23. Under excess loads a heavy spring 29 is compressed between a flange 28 of the cylinder 23 and a flange 30 of a fixed cylinder 31 attached to the hoist frame, whereby a safety cut-off switch 35 is actuated through a chain 36. When the cable goes slack the light spring 27 moves the bar 22 to engage a safety cut-off switch 38. End stop gear, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a switch 16 having an arm 17 actuated by a projection 18 on the upper part of the hook block 13.
