Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1042474/C2/1> in which the dotted line indicates that the compounds are saturated or unsaturated at the indicated position, each of X and X1 is a hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine atom, or a C1- 6 alkyl, C2- 6 alkenyl, C1- 4 perfluoroalkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl, C1- 4 acyl, C1- 4 perfluoroacyl, C1- 4 alkylamino, C2- 8 dialkylamino, C1- 4 acylamino, C1- 4 perfluoroacylamino, C1- 4 alkylsulphonylamino, hydroxy, C1- 4 alkoxy, C1- 4 perfluoroalkoxy, cyano carboxy, carbamoyl, C2- 5 alkylcarbamoyl, C3- 9 dialkylcarbamoyl, C2- 6 carboalkoxy, mercapto, C1- 4 alkylmercapto, C1- 4 perfluoroalkylmercapto, C1- 4 alkylsulphonyl, C1- 4 perfluoroalkylsulphonyl, sulphamoyl, C1- 4 alkylsulphamoyl, or C2- 8 dialkylsulphamoyl group; and more than one substituent may be present on each benzene ring; Y is a hydrogen or halogen atom; and Z1 is a trimethylene or alkyl-substituted trimethylene radical; and a process for their preparation comprising adding HBr by a peroxide-catalysed addition reaction to a compound of the formula <FORM:1042474/C2/2> in which Z is an allyl or alkyl-substituted allyl radical.
