Abstract

1,042,411. Tamperproof boxes. AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Jan. 1, 1964, No. 25/64. Heading B8P. A box for syringes 24 comprises a bottom shell 2 provided with cut-outs 4, 5, 6, 7, cradles 14, 18 and separately breakaway end portions 27. One end wall 11 of the shell 2 has a series of vertical slots 26 which separate the portions 27 and each portion has an extension tab 28, adjacent tabs being joined by frangible rods 30. The breakaway portions 27 and a flange 12 which extends around the shell 2 are joined by a frangible neck 29, Fig. 2 (not shown). A cover 31 is secured to the flange 12 preferably by a volatile plastics solvent. To remove one of the syringes, one of the tabs 28 is forced downwards until first the associated rods 30 and then the neck 29 break. In a modification, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), a cover portion 61 is provided with cradles 44a, 48a which co-operate with cradles 44, 48 on the bottom shell 32. An end wall 1 of the shell has breakaway end portions 57 as before, a frangible portion 62 being formed in the cover 61 about which end portions 57 can be hinged, after the rods 60 adjacent the corresponding tab 58 are broken, until the portion 62 breaks. The shells 2, 32 and covers 31, 61 may be unitarily moulded from a suitable plastics, such as polystyrene, polymethyl methacrylate, polypropylene, phenol-formaldehyde alkyd resins or other thermo-plastic or thermo-setting compositions. The shell or cover or both may be transparent to assist visual checking of the contents. The rods 30, 60 between adjacent tab portions permit tampering with the boxes to be detected.
