Abstract
1,042,027. Feeding articles from hoppers; box pallets. BENTON & STONE Ltd. June 26, 1963 [July 6, 1962], No. 25969/62. Headings B8H and B8S. Feeding apparatus for articles or material comprises a frame 4 on which is mounted a hopper with a pair of side walls 5, an inclined floor 6 and a vertical end wall 7. A vertically reciprocable plunger 8 at the bottom of its stroke receives articles on its inclined upper surface, which forms a continuation of the floor 6, under gravity. At the top of the stroke the articles slide under gravity down a shoot 10 into a basket 11. A vertically adjustable baffle 15 extending parallel to the end wall 7 defines, with the floor 6, a gap through which the articles must pass to the plunger 8. Above the floor 6 is a pair of cross-members 4a on to which a box pallet 12 with a hinge bottom 13 can be loaded with a fork-lift truck, the arrangement being such that a filled box can be placed on the cross-members 4a, and when the forks 14 of the truck are lowered the bottom 13 of the box will open to discharge its contents into the hopper.
