Abstract

1,041,634. Rolling. MORGARDSHAMMARS MEK VERKSTADS A.B. May 2, 1963 [May 2, 1962], No. 17339/63. Heading B3M. A roll pair unit suitable for use in a continuous rolling mill is angularly adjustable in the plane of the roll axes. Rolls 1 and 2 are housed in a frame 6 which is pivotally supported to a rigid framework 22 for rotation by means of a lifting eye 7a about the pass line A of the rolls. The rolls are driven by a motor 8, are axially adjustable by a screw 16, and are adjustable to vary the roll pass by set screw gearing 4. Axial and lateral movements of the rolls are restrained by abutments on the frame. A threaded bearing surface 55a (Fig. 9, not shown) allows rotation of the frame in a fixed support 22. A roller entry guide 18 is provided for the rolls. In a further embodiment (Fig. 13, not shown) the rolls and driving motor are mounted on a base 50, the base being rotatable about a pivot B and movable longitudinally relative to the pivot by means of a motor driven screw 51, thus permitting the pass line C to remain unchanged. Two frames 6 may be attached together by means of a rope passing over a pulley wheel such that rotation of one frame causes equal and opposite rotation of the other frame about the same axis.
