Abstract

1,041,387. Air conditioning. BUENSODSTACEY CORPORATION. April 11, 1963 [May 3, 1962], No. 14712/63. Heading F4V. In an induction type air conditioning system the temperature of the zone to be conditioned is controlled only by varying the temperature of the primary air supply. Ducts 16 and 17 of a dual duct system are supplied with warm and cold air from a central conditioning unit and feed a mixing chamber 15 located in, or under the floor near, a distribution unit 10, one distribution unit being provided for each room or zone to be conditioned. A valve 18 controlled by a pneumatic or electric zone thermostat 19 proportions the mixture of warm and cold air supplied via a constant volume flow rate regulator 20 to a duct 14 of the unit 10. Air from the duct 14 passes to a header 11 and is ejected from the unit through nozzles 12 and a grille 13. A flow of recirculated room air is thus induced through a grille 21 and over a heat exchanger 22 which is fed with fluid from a closed system including a pump 25 and reservoir 26. The reservoir 26 is heated or cooled according to the season and the heat-exchange fluid circulates at a constant volume flow rate. In a modification, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), two heat-exchangers are disposed in the path of recirculated air above the primary air header which may be provided with a slit in place of the nozzles, and a pivoted flap proportions the warm and cold air.
