Abstract

1,041,118. Optical apparatus. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 13, 1965 [May 15, 1964], No. 20420/64. Heading G2J. A prismatic lens has one flat face 14 and one formed with prisms arranged in the form of concentric circles or a continuous spiral the outer prisms at least being so arranged that light, such as 8, from a source on the axis of the lens is totally internally reflected and emerges parallel to the axis so that the lens has a much shorter focal length than prismatic lenses using only the refractive properties, of the prisms. Each prism face 9 is normal to rays, such as 8, from the light source and of such length X that the light rays are cut off by the next innermost prism. Constructional data are provided for a lens having inner refracting prisms and outer reflecting ones.
