Abstract

1,040,879. Conjugate filaments. A.C.S.A. APPLICAZIONI CHIMICHE S.p.A. Dec. 14, 1964 [Dec. 12, 1963], No. 50733/64. Heading B5B. Conjugate filaments are made by simultaneously extruding through common orifices at least two solutions of polyvinyl chloride polymers of high syndiotactic index (as defined) and of different shrinkage characteristics (in the extruded and stretched filament). The filaments, which may be wet- or dry-spun, may be alternately heat treated and stretched to produce a permanent and reversible crimp. The polymers are defined as homopolymers of vinyl chloride of syndiotactic index greater than 1À6, and copolymers and mixtures containing at least 85% of such polyvinyl chloride or vinyl chloride units. In examples, two cyclohexanone solutions of polyvinyl chlorides are wet-spun, washed, stretched, dried under tension, and subjected to shrinkage on boiling water. The filaments may be of side-by-side or sheath/core type.
