Abstract

1,040,284. Heat exchangers. D. LLOYDROACH, [trading as LLOYD-ROACH ENGINEERING]. May 25, 1964 [May 31, 1963], No. 21828/63. Heading F4S. [Also in Division B5] A tube and header or tube and end plate assembly comprises a header or end plate of thermosetting synthetic resin material, moulded on to the ends of an array of heat exchanger tubes. The ends of the tubes, or the whole of the tubes, may be coated with resin which is cured before the end plate or header is moulded. Fig. 1 (not shown) depicts a tube and end plate assembly in a mould which consists of a steel base 1 having pins 2 to locate the tubes 5. A ring 8 fits over a sleeve 7 and is clamped in place by tension bolts 9. The mould is pushed off the base by means of an extraction plate 6 fitted with pins touching the underside of the disc 3. Fig. 7 shows a tube and header assembly. Threaded steel or other metal inserts 13 may be moulded into the resin header to form securing points for the flanges of feed pipes. Metal baffle plates 14 position the tubes and ensure correct flow of the fluid circulating outside the tubes.
