A wood shearing machine comprises a connecting rod 2 on a flywheel 1 secured to a shaft 4, a support 5, and a bearing 3 disposed between the flywheel and support and secured directly to the flywheel. The connecting rod is joined to a pressure bar and cutter blade unit which is reciprocated thereby along a pair of slideways between which, and abutting against a front face, wood to be cut is carried by a vertically movable feed table. The bearing 3 is keyed directly to the hub of the flywheel, instead of to the shaft, to reduce the distance between the bearing and connecting rod.
