Abstract

1,040,007. Making magnetic cores; jointing. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Jan. 18, 1965 [Jan. 22, 1964], No. 2207/65. Headings B3A and B3V. A method of securing together magnetic core laminations of a coil or transformer comprises forming a stack of the laminations in their hard-rolled state, securing the laminations together by a layer of metal which is not continuous about the axis of the stack and is bonded to the edges of the laminations, the metal being the same as that of the laminations or such that it does not set up thermal stresses in the laminations, and softening the metal of the stacked laminations by heat treatment. In an embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the laminations are stacked in bundles 1 separated by paper or pasteboard layers 2, and are secured together by a clamp passing through an aperture in the laminations. Cover strips 4 are applied along the stack, which may be ground, sand-blasted or etched externally before application of the strips. The securing metal layer is then applied between the strips 4 by spraying (Fig. 2) or vapour coating in a vacuum, after which the strips 4 and layers 2 are removed before the bundles 1 are furnace annealed. If the laminations in the bundles are separated by layers of insulating powder adhered to the laminations, only the corners of the bundles are sand blasted and coated with metal.
