A device for sawing and subsequently stacking wood fibre board and similar slabs comprises a feeder having a plurality of arms 10 for engaging the rear edge of a slab 26 and move it over a transport table 1 to saw blade means 7 arranged at one side of the table, the saw blades means being laterally movable to allow sawing of various sizes and the feeding arms being arranged to be varied dependent on the position of the blade means, and a stacking device having a receiving station 22 defined by a thin partition wall constituted by a plate 12 aligned with the blade means. The feeder may be of the type described in Specification 937,118 having a plurality of arms 10 which are adjustably mounted on a beam 9 supported by a carriage 8 movable along rails 25. The arms are adapted to engage the rear edge of a slab to be cut and feed it over the table 1 against which it is pressed by rollers 3 on a member 2. As described, the device has a plurality of saws, each of which is mounted on a carriage 5 movable transversely to the direction of feed by sliding along a guide 4 and by rollers 24 engaging a rail 23 to determine the sizes of the pieces the slab is to be cut into. Each carriage carries the motor and drive for its saw and a plate 12 of the same thickness as the saw, the plates being connected to the carriages by pivots 13 and pins engaging inverted U-shaped openings 14 which permit the plates to be pivoted upwardly. The plates 12 define the sizes of the receiving stations 22 which are constituted by a vertically movable bottom 21 and a beam 15 mounted at the end of counterbalanced levers 16. Pallets or boards to receive the cut pieces of the slabs may be placed on rollers 20 on the bottom which is initially raised until the upper surfaces of the pallets or boards are level with or slightly below the level of the transport table 1, the beam 15 and plates 12 pivoting out of the way if engaged by the pallets or boards. During sawing, the feed arms 10 advance the slab past the saws and into the receiving stations, the bottom being lowered to receive successive cut slabs which are accurately stacked by engagement with the beam 15 and plates 12. The feeder may be mounted below the transport table 1 and may consist of a plurality of endless chains each of which has at least one feed arm.
