Abstract

1,039,800. Selective signalling. QUARNDON ELECTRONICS Ltd. March 8, 1965 [Dec. 7, 1963], No. 48406/63. Heading G4H. In a signalling system in which a central station is to indicate the condition of a plurality of two-position switches one at each of a corresponding plurality of remote field stations, which may for example be spaced alongside a long conveyer in a mine, the central station transmits a sampling pulse to the first remote station which delays it by one bit period (20 ms.) and passes it to the next remote station, which delays it and passes it to the next remote station, and so on, and any remote station at which a switch is on initiates a reply pulse which is transmitted along the same channel back to the central station where, by its time of receipt it may be ascribed to a particular remote station whose identity is then indicated on lamps. The reply pulses are arranged to interleave the clock pulses passed from station to station. In a first embodiment a single indicating lamp is provided for each remote station. In a second embodiment a single indicator of the type that can display numbers from 0 to 99 is caused to display sequentially the numbers of each remote station at which a switch has been turned on. The arrangement is such that if a single switch only is on then its number is displayed continuously. However, if two or more are turned on then their numbers are displayed (each for the same direction, typically 1 to 3 seconds) cyclically and respectively.
