Abstract

Dental prostheses are made by polymerizing in a mould a mixture consisting of one or more polymers of methyl methacrylate together with methyl methacrylate and a N-alkylol or N-alkylol ether of acrylamide and/or methacrylamide. Also present in the mixture may be a polyunsaturated monomer, e.g. divinylbenzene, triacryl formal, glycol diacrylate and glycerine triacrylate and trimethacrylate. Polymerization is effected in the presence of a free-radical catalyst, e.g. benzoyl peroxide. The Examples describe polymerizing mixtures of polymethyl methacrylate and a methyl methacrylate/ethyl acrylate copolymer with: (1) methyl methacrylate and N-(2-hydroxyethyl) methacrylamide, and (2) methyl methacrylate and N-methylol methacrylamide monomethyl ether.
