Abstract

1,039,645. Vibratory mechanism. BODINE A.G. April 13, 1964, No. 15215/64. Heading F2X. [Also in Divisions B1 and E1] Apparatus for creating continuous longitudinal elastic vibrations in an elastic, e.g. steel stem for forming concrete piles in the earth (see Division E1) comprises in one embodiment a body 77 formed with two cylindrical cavities 120 each containing a ring 128 eccentrically mounted on a pin 126 and rotated by air introduced under pressure through a hose 146 and air-supported inlet fitting 142 (Figs. 6, 8, not shown). The air passes via a channel 150 through grooves 152 tangential thereto and cut so that the rings counter-rotate at the resonant frequency of the stem so as to set up a longitudinal standing wave therein. Air is exhausted through ports 153. In a second embodiment (Fig. 10, not shown) a generator 230 supported together with a pivoted beam 220 and stem 211 by compression springs 231 comprises unbalanced weights 232 on parallel shafts connected by spur gears 233.
