Abstract

In a sock or stocking the toe end of the foot is closed by a sewn overlock seam embracing a course or courses of fabric thinner than the neighbouring parts of the foot. The foot may be knitted with two ends of yarn and the thinner part from one end of a similar yarn or, to assist registration during seaming, from a yarn of contrasting colour. A marking yarn may also be knitted in the thinner part of the sock.
