Abstract

1,039,261. Guiding record tapes. THERMIONIC PRODUCTS (ELECTRONICS) Ltd., and LEVER, J. S. Aug. 15, 1963 [Aug. 17, 1962], No. 31741/62. Heading G5R. A self-aligning guide, particularly for magnetic tape, has the guide portion 1, 9, 13 pivoted about an axis transverse to the axis of the guide surface and falling inside and preferably midway across the tape width. In Fig. 1 a shell 1 is pivoted on a pin 5 supported on a pillar 3 attached to the tape deck 2. In Fig. 2, a two-part member 7, 9 is sprung over either a sphere, 11, if guide rotation about its own axis is to be permitted, or a hexagonal member engaging suitably modified recesses 10, if such rotation is to be prevented. In Fig. 3, the pillar 13 is supported by an arm 14 pivoted remotely from the pillar. In all cases, collars or resilient members of known types (not detailed) may be incorporated with the members 1, 9, 13 to locate the tape laterally.
