A method of mounting on a hose an annular float made of foam plastics or like material and having a substantially radial opening, comprises the steps of bending open the float so that the radial opening is enlarged, passing the hose through the opening, bring- ing the faces 6, 7 of the opening together and interconnecting the faces. The faces of the opening may form a V shape in plan view as shown, or side view (Fig. 5, not shown). The faces may be glued together or held together by bandages or wire.
