Abstract

103,792. Hay, M. F. Sept. 30, 1916. Gas exits and collectors; cooling storage bat. teries.-Storage batteries for submarines are ventilated and kept cool by a current of air which is passed through a cooling-device, circulated over the surface of the electrolyte, and discharged into the atmosphere or returned to the air-circulating system. As shown in Fig. 2, air is drawn by a fan 0 through a cooling-device C and through the battery cells K by means of conduits H, M and ducts J passing through the covers of the cells. The air may be discharged into the atmosphere or returned to the cooler through a pipe S. The cooler consists of a chamber C having a baffle D and containing a tubular coil E supplied with a cooling-medium.
