Abstract
The invention comprises heterogeneous cobalt complex compounds containing monoazo dyes, one of the said monoazo dyes being of the formula <FORM:1037773/C4-C5/1> wherein X represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy and the NH2 group is in the adjacent position to the -N = N- group and the other monoazo dye being a member of the ortho, ortho1-dihydroxy - benzene - azonapthalene series, and cobalt, less than two cobalt atoms being in complex combination with two molecules of monoazo compound. The dye complexes are obtained by treating appropriate dyes with an appropriate quantity of a cobalt yielding agent. In example (1) a cobalt complex is obtained by reacting the dyes 2-amino-1-hydroxy - 5 - nitrobenzene \sQ 2 - aminonaphthalene - 6 - sulphonic acid - (21 - hydroxy)-propylamide and 2-amino-1-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzene \sQ 2 - hydroxynapthalene in aqueous sodium hydroxide solution with a solution of cobaltous sulphate and tartaric acid. Many additional examples are furnished.ALSO:A vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer solution is coloured with the cobalt complex of the dyes 2-amino-1-hydroxy-5-nitro-benzene --> 2 - aminonaphthalene - 6 - sulphonic acid-(21 - hydroxy) - propylamide and 2 - amino - 1 -hydroxy - 5 - nitrobenzene --> 2 - hydroxynaphthalene (see Division C4).
