Abstract
Cyclohexylsulphamic acid or a salt thereof is prepared by reacting the complex R3N.SO3, in which each of the R radicals, which may be the same or different, is a methyl, ethyl or propyl radical, with cyclohexylamine, thus forming the R3N salt of cyclohexylsulphamic acid, and then converting it by acidification or ion exchange to cyclohexylsulphamic acid or by treatment with a base to a metal salt thereof. The R3N.SO3 complex used as starting material may be prepared by reaction between SO3 and R3N in the vapour phase or in an inert solvent medium, e.g. a halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon. If the complex is prepared in an inert solvent the process of the invention may be carried out in the same solvent or another solvent, especially water. The reaction is preferably carried out at a temperature above 55 DEG C. The preferred bases for forming the metal salts are calcium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide.
