A toilet roll holder contains two rolls, the lower of which outwardly displaces spring or gravity loaded levers 6, 7, Fig. 3, pivoted at 10, 11 to the side walls 2, 3 so that rods 16, 17 of spring or gravity loaded levers 14, 15 pivoted at 12, 13 on the levers 6, 7 move inwards, as shown on the lefthand side of Fig. 3 to support an upper spare roll. On removing the core of the used lower roll the levers 6, 7 move inwards so that rods 16, 17 are retracted as on the right-hand side whereby the upper roll drops down the guides 18, 19 to the lower position. In Fig. 4, as the levers 29 move inwards, pawls 34 are released to allow the weight of the upper roll to pivot a bar 27 and levers 25 carrying the pawls so that the roll drops to its lower position, A single lever 6 or 29 may be used.
