Abstract

1,036,460. Fuel injection pumps. V. D. ROOSA. July 6, 1964 [July 12, 1963], No. 27820/64. Heading F1A. In a rotary radial cylinder distributor type. fuel injection pump having a cam which is angularly adjustable for timing injection the adjusting piston 102 is connected to the cam 46 by an element 114 having a cylindrical surface 116 engaged in a cylindrical bore 118 in the piston 102 and a part spherical head 120 of less diameter than the surface 116 engaging in a bore 100 in the cam. An alternative bore 101 is provided in the cam. The end of the element 114 engaging the cylinder 104 is convexed to minimize friction. The rotor 14 has at one end a vane type feed pump 18 having a by-pass valve 32 so that the pressure in the passage 30 varies with speed. The passage 30 is connected to a passage 31 the connection being controlled by a solenoid actuated stop valve 103. The passage 31 is connected via a ball valve (107) and bore (105) to one end of the cylinder 104; an alternative connection bore (109) is provided for reverse operation. The passage 31 is also connected via apassage 66, annular passage 70, bore 72 in the rotor and ball valve 74 to the pump chamber 42. Axial and radial bores 76, 78 distribute fuel to the outlets 64.
