Abstract

1,035,955. Preventing overturning; vehicle stands. WHITLOCK BROS. Ltd. May 4, 1964 [May 3, 1963], No. 17645/63. Headings B7D, B7J and B7L. A stabilizing device to prevent a vehicle, e.g. a tractor, earth working vehicle, or mobile crane, and which may be road-borne or rail borne, from overturning when supporting a load, comprises a frame 2, 3, 4, 5, which is attached in a transverse vertical plane at one end of the vehicle and of which, the lower member 3 is a downwardly opening channel section with return flanges 9, 11 and slidingly supports two pairs of blocks 19, 21 upon each pair of which are mounted trunnions 17, 18 which pivotally support a telescopic leg 15, 16, each telescopic leg being pivoted at 25 to a link 14 which is pivoted to the channel 3 at 24. The legs 15, 16 may be held in any position of extension by pins 23 passing through registering holes, and ground engaging members 22 are attached to the outer ends. Hydraulic jacks 28 are pivoted at 31 to the frame and to lugs 27 attached to the links 14 and may be expanded to move the legs from an inoperative position, shown in full lines at the right side of Fig. 1, to an operative position, shown in broken lines, in which the vehicle is stabilized against overturning, or is raised from the ground.
