Abstract
1,034,450. Electromagnetic switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Feb. 16, 1965, No. 6675/65. Heading H2B. An automatic reclosing overload circuit breaker comprises a pair of pivoted levers 30 carrying a bridging contact rod 11 biased closed by a torsion spring 69 and controlled by an overcentre tension spring 34. Under overload a series solenoid 52 is energized to drive a core 51 downwards rotating a cam 55 until its surface 58 strikes a pin 36 on lever 30 driving the mechanism overcentre and separating the contacts 12, 14. The pin 36 is latched in the fully open position by a latch 62. Since the solenoid is now de-energized the core 51 returns under the action of spring 34 which passes overcentre. As the core approaches its end position (Fig. 1, not shown) the end 65 of a lever 40 of the overcentre mechanism releases the latch 62 allowing the contacts to close rapidly. If the fault persists the action is repeated. The motion of core 51 is delayed by constricting an outlet 80 for the oil 81 behind the core. In the closed position contact rod 11 lies in a U-shaped magnetic member 71 by which is produced a magnetic force tending to hold the contacts closed.
