Abstract

Helmets; ventilating.- For fitting and ventilating purposes, the inner band b of a hat or helmet, supporting the leather c, is connected by rubberjacketed tongues f to a ring h, which fits the outer shell and is connected to it by lugs k and crown bands n, or by either of them alone. The chief feature of the invention consists in connecting the ring tongues and band by rivets e, g so as to form a uniting structure. A cork or like packing-strip i is used between the ring and shell to absorb shocks. The tongues may be of inverted U-formation, and each is preferably in a vertical plane. In a modification, the bands n are shortened, and their looped ends are laced to a central crown fitting. In either case, the bands form a resilient false crown, against which the head of the wearer bears through the lining d.
