Abstract

[Also in Division B8] A device for supply and removing workpieces from a lathe comprises a vertical magazine H, means 14 for positively ejecting the lowest workpiece into an open carrier 116 which is then moved in a straight line to position the work between the lathe centres, and an inclined ramp J for receiving machined workpieces. The magazine H has front guides adjustable transversely on laterally adjustable supports 3 to permit workpieces of varying diameters and lengths to be accommodated. In operation, the work spindle is stopped when machining is complete and a slide K is advanced by hydraulic means to receive the workpiece as it is released by opening of the chuck and retraction of the tail stock. When the slide is retracted, a flap at its rear is cammed open and the workpiece rolls into a collection channel M. A slide D carrying a loading arm B is raised by hydraulic means E. In its upper position, the slide abuts lever means to rotate the ejection arms 14, Fig. 6 (not shown), thus moving the lower workpiece 1 over a ramp 9 into the pivoted cradle 116 of the arm B. The arm B is lowered, the workpiece is gripped in the machine and the arm raised, the cradle 116 snapping over the workpiece in its upward movement. If manual operation is required, the hydraulic power is cut off and thereby a pawl is released which locks the slide D in its upper position. Finished pieces can be removed in a trolley. Cushioning pads prevent noise from the unloading operation and a guard protects the operator from chips and lubricant. A lamp warns the operator when no workpieces are left.
