Abstract

An electrical machining apparatus is adapted for the selective use of electro-chemical machining and electro-erosive machining. In one embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), electro-chemical machining and electro-erosion are used in succession. During electro-chemical machining, the electrode tool 4 is fed towards the workpiece 3 by control means 5, the current is supplied from a D.C. generator 8 and electrolyte is supplied to the tool electrode by a pump from reservoir 9. During electro-erosion, the feed is controlled by means 6, the working current is supplied from an impulse generator 7 and dielectric liquid is supplied from a reservoir to a tank 1 housing the electrode and workpiece. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) a common generator unit 7, 8 and feed control 5, 6 are used; the dielectric is ordinary tap water and the electrolyte is an aqueous solution.
